Personal Development and Community Integration

At the MFRC, we know military families move frequently and that starting over in a new community is tough. We offer services and activities to help make that transition easier while enhancing your quality of life and promoting and supporting personal, family and community development.

Services include welcome and relocation assistance, second language and ESL courses, referrals, career assistance, discounted attraction tickets, day trips, monthly social events, Stampede Breakfast, annual Christmas party, military family ID cards and community outreach.

Call our office to purchase passes or for more information.

Discounted Admission Passes & Social Events

Everyone loves getting a discount, and at the MFRC we have discounted passes for the below attractions:

  • Fort Calgary: $6 adult, $4 youth (ages 7-11), $5 seniors
  • Calaway Park (seasonal availability): $22 each
  • West Edmonton Mall Choice Pass: $25 each
  • Heritage Park: $17 adult/senior, $12 child (ages 3-14)
  • Cineplex theatres: $9.25
  • Landmark theatres: $7

Unfortunately we do not have Calgary Zoo passes, but you can check out www.calgaryattractions.com for local coupons and discounts at a variety of palces.

Sometimes we receive donated tickets to sporting events (Calgary Hitmen, Flames and Stampeders), movie premieres, theatre performances and concerts from our generous donors and fellow Calgarians, which we then offer to our military community on a free draw or first-come, first-served basis. We often have cheap group rates for shows like Cirque du Soleil and our special monthly activities include personal development workshops, family outings and weekend retreats. Be sure to like our Facebook page or follow us on Twitter to get the notification when those are available!

The CF Appreciation program (CFOne) also has a list of businesses that provide discounts to military families and is being enhanced and expanded into new markets. You must have a CFOne Card number to access the website; click here to find out how to get a card. And if you're aware of a military discount in Southern Alberta, please let us know!

Welcome Packages

Are you new to town? At the MFRC we have welcome packages for newcomers that include things like community newsletters, city maps and activity brochures as well as real estate  information. Once you’ve settled in, our staff can set up a personal visit to welcome you and your family, provide any further assistance and answer any other questions.

The Calgary MFRC also understands how hard it is on children and youth to move away from friends and everything familiar. We’ve created a wonderful backpack with some giveaways, coupons and information about what kids and teens like to do in Calgary. Once you're settled in, drop by the MFRC or set-up a welcome visit to receive your free Welcome Backpack.

Employment Assistance

The Calgary MFRC offers employment assistance services to military spouses and dependants free of charge. Our Employment Advisor can help update your resume and cover letter, provide helpful tips for job searching, interviews and more. Military Family ID Cards

At the MFRC we can provide you and your family members with a military ID card, as well as a referral for the CFOne card.. A CFOne card is not a form of ID but more of a discount card that military members and their families can apply for and use at establishments across Canada.

You can download the Military ID application form here.

Second Language Courses

At the MFRC we have several Rosetta Stone licenses that can help you with your language aspirations, whether that be learning a new language, improving current skills or expanding your English. Contact our office for more information or to get set up with an online account.
