This time of year is a good reminder for all of us to acknowledge and celebrate the many heroic people and things in our lives that make everything meaningful and fulfilling.
November reminds us to take a moment of remembrance, to thank the military members for their service to our country, and to remember all who bravely served and sacrificed their lives for our freedom. On Remembrance Day, we acknowledge the courage and sacrifice and acknowledge our responsibility to work for the peace they fought so hard to achieve.
The holiday season is also right around the corner. This is another great reminder to celebrate with your family and friends in your life. The unique challenges associated with being part of a military family means there can be holiday hurdles as well as joys and celebration. You may be living away from your extended family, have family members on deployments over the holidays, or maybe you are living in a new city this season. If this is the case, this year, we hope you will still find time to celebrate the relationships that surround you.
As we look to support our military community members, we know that family is important. It is important to spend time with them, make memories together and enjoy the time you have together. This is why we plan family-friendly programs and events throughout the year, such as our Strengthening Families Program. This program is designed to promote positive, meaningful, and healthy opportunities for CAF families to interact, have fun and improve their overall relationships. This program, as well as our family events like our upcoming ski trip, will consist of affordable opportunities for CAF families to spend quality time with each other through social and recreational activities. I hope that you and your family will have a chance to attend one of these programs and take the time to build some more happy memories together.
Finally, I want to express my sincere gratitude to the knowledgeable and passionate staff, volunteers and board members who have made so many great programs, events, and activities a success throughout 2018. Thank you all for your ongoing dedication to the military families across Southern Alberta. I look forward to continuing our good work in 2019 as we work hard to empower our military families and uniting our community.
