The Calgary MFRC recognizes that the military lifestyle has unique stressors. Relocation, separation, and risk are characteristics of the CAF life that impact many military families. For some, this creates challenges in maintaining physical and mental health for both the member as well as their support system – the family. The Calgary MFRC understands this and has adopted a strategy to enhance awareness, access, and use of physical and mental health services. Our annual retreat is part of this strategy.
For two full days, military members and their partners gathered in the mountains for a weekend of speakers, camaraderie, and conversations with organizations which offer diverse expertise to assist CAF members and their families on the road to better health and well-being. Our partners provide invaluable support to us and CAF members.
Keeping connected to service providers and the community at large is key to overcoming the mental health issues related to PTSD or OSI. This event provides an opportunity to connect with other CAF peers and family members. This year, our attendees got a chance to realize that they are not alone in their struggles and that the stigma attached to mental health issues can be eliminated.
The Calgary MFRC is here to support you and your family members at the retreat and beyond. If you are looking for support with health or wellness issues, PTSD or OSI, give us a call or sign up for one of our follow-up workshops.
