An MFRC recap
We have had such a great beginning to 2018! In just the last few months we have had so many opportunities to meet, visit, and go on adventures with so many of the military families in our community.
In January, we took a group of military youths on an overnight adventure in Edmonton as part of our Youth in Motion Program. These 12 to 17 year olds got a chance to interact with other military youth while exploring West Edmonton Mall’s Waterpark and Galaxyland. Trips like this help to keep our youth connected with the community and find support from other youth who have had similar military life experiences.
Our Lethbridge MFRC held a Paint Night for military family members, and what a group of artists they are! A small group got together to have some fun and learned to paint a beautiful northern lights landscape. We hope to see more of this talented group at our future events in Lethbridge.
We also went on a Winter Adventure to the Lake Louise Ice Festival with our Strengthening Families Program. A busload of military families got a chance to visit the beautiful Rocky Mountains with their significant others and children. You can learn more about our Strengthening Families Program on page 6 of this newsletter.
In February, the community showed up to several cold, but fun, outdoor activities. This started with the Calgary MFRC ski trip to Panorama. A group of families and youth left Calgary on a Friday and spent the weekend together skiing and getting to know one another.
Family Day led to several chilly outdoor adventures as well. The Calgary community joined together to go Snow Tubing at Mount Norquay as part of the Strengthening Families Program. This adventurous bunch didn’t let the cold keep them down!
The Red Deer MFRC, in partnership with CanPraxis, joined together for a day of sleigh rides, bonfire, hot dogs, hamburgers, and more! This was a very cold day, but the families who braved the cold had a great time at the event.
You can see more pictures of some of these events on the back page of this newsletter.
We look forward to seeing all of the families in Calgary, Lethbridge and Red Deer at more of our upcoming events, programs and workshops. Keep an eye on our newsletter, website and Facebook page for current event listings.
